The DVD runs for 86 minutes and is filmed in widescreen format. Between each song the DVD is interspersed with footage of Jesse backstage as well as being interviewed at Virgin Records in NYC. Although there are no bonus features on the DVD, it does include an unlisted track, 'Love Streams', which was previously featured on Jesse's 169 EP & the Bellvue album To Be Somebody. The second clip of 'Queen Of The Underworld' at Irving Plaza and the clip of 'High Lonesome' are not complete songs but that is in keeping with the feel of the DVD which tends to cut from one scene to another, perhaps to give the impression of a tour diary. The live footage from Newcastle is slightly too dark, and I prefer the look of the London Electric Ballroom and the New York Irving Plaza filming, which also uses multi camera shots as opposed to a single camera used on most of the other shows. But putting my niggling opinions aside, then this is (almost) just what I've been waiting for! I think there may also be a few issues with the DVD mastering / pressing. Certainly on my DVD player, the DVD freezes just before 'Queen Of The Underworld' (track 11) but this is overcome by forwarding to the next track using my DVD controller. Also, 'High Lonesome' is unobtainable from the chapter menu. I don't think that any of these issues are a big problem, but maybe One Little Indian could rectify them for the second pressing of the DVD if this turns out to be a problem on other DVD players. |
